New figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has revealed that UK car production is at the highest half-year level since 2008 – encouraging news for the UK economy.
Between January and June, 793,642 cars were manufactured showing an increase of 0.3% compared to the same half-year period in 2014.
June figures also indicate production for export is up 9.0%, this is currently exceeding the level of vehicles produced for the UK which dropped by 7.1%.
*Mike Hawes, SMMT Chief Executive, said, "The sector is ahead of the game on productivity, with investment in efficient, high-tech manufacturing processes and a highly skilled workforce resulting in huge gains over the past decade.
"This success has been built on significant industry investment and has also relied on a positive relationship with government, essential if the industry is to maintain its international competitiveness."
