In March, the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons approved a decision to allow Veterinary Surgeons to use the title Dr. The RCVS proposed the change to a variety of industry professionals and the general public, resulting in 11,000 responses which shown a staggering 82% approval of the decision*.
Many veterinarians are welcoming the change and believe it’s a positive step in the right direction for the UK industry, bringing it in line with other international areas, such as Australia and New Zealand.
Veterinary clients will also benefit from the decision which adds a higher level of reassurance to the treatment of their animals and also protection from the MRCVS (Member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons) accreditation.
It has been noted that the use of the title is optional. However, if a veterinary surgeon decides to use the title they must ensure that they do not mislead their clients. To comply, they must use the title with their name and either the descriptor ‘veterinary surgeon’ or the letters ‘MRCVS’ .
We understand that this very positive change will have an impact on many of our LDF veterinary clients. If you’d like us to change your title, please contact us to update your details.
