" At first we approached the banks, but it was clear they had no appetite to help. With LDF the story was very different. They listened and wanted to support us. Their funding supported vital parts of the build. "
Dea McGill, Director, Brassica
Having spent 20 years in investment banking, Dea McGill had built up many hospitality contacts as well as industry experience. So when an opportunity arose in the Dundee waterfront redevelopment project the idea for Brassica was born, a 600m2 social dining experience.
Not your average restaurant, the concept caters for everyone from a simple breakfast at their bakery, to a business lunch, right through to high-end, yet informal dining in their restaurant.
Dea knew from the start that to deliver the quality and scale of dining experience they wanted, they’d need additional investment.
At first, they approached the banks, but it was clear that they had no appetite to help, with one letter telling them to come back in two years’ time!
After exploring alternative finance options Dea approached LDF to help fund their launch. We listened to their business plan, and knew this was a project we wanted to support.
With LDF's help, Dea's dream for Brassica is well on the way to launch in March 2018. With the funding support in place for the Dundee restaurant, Dea and her team are already starting to explore opportunities to set up similar models in Edinburgh and Inverness.

How a new concept restaurant is using alternative finance to launch
We could not have been happier. Banks as usual were a nightmare - they took over six weeks to eventually refuse for vague reasons unexplained. LDF were professional, helpful, friendly, and best of all, fast.
